Montclair detectives received information that the victim’s girlfriend owned a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle leaving the scene of the shooting.
Detectives were able to track the female to a motel in the city of Ontario, where they contacted the girlfriend of the victim, along with her 17 year old son, and an adult male friend.
While speaking to the subjects, they made statements admitting they were at the scene of the shooting, but denied being involved. The subjects agreed to respond to the Montclair Police Department and provide a statement.
At the Montclair Police Department, the subjects provided conflicting statements. Ultimately, they admitted to travelling to the victim’s residence to assault him in some way. During the planned assault, the adult male suspect shot the victim several times. The three fled the scene in the female’s vehicle, changed their clothing and hid the weapon. Montclair Detectives later located the weapon used in the homicide and other items of evidence.
The female, Karen Taylor of Ontario, the male, Larry Oswalt of Desert Hot Springs, were booked at the West Valley Detention Center for homicide. The male juvenile was booked at Juvenile Hall for homicide as well.
