Press Release regarding National Night Out

(Windsor Heights, IA) - National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime” began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. That first year, 2.5 million Americans took part across 400 communities in 23 states. National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

National Night out is Tuesday, August 5th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Heights Community & Events Center and Colby Park, located at 6900 School Street in Windsor Heights

Once again Windsor Heights will join communities across America for their award winning “Night Out Against Crime and Violence”. This year’s event will be full of FREE family activities and fun. Prizes and drawings will take place throughout the event.

Activities offered:
•Bounce House, game truck, face painting and many other kid friendly activities.
•Jonathan May Entertainment will be making balloon animals
•Helicopter landing on ball field and on static display (weather permitting)
•Texting while driving simulator sponsored by GTSB

Each year the Windsor Heights Police Department includes a service project during their National Night Out Celebration. This year the Police Association will be collecting new gift cards to benefit families of Iowa National Guard service men and women who are on deployment. Please bring new and unused gift cards in any denomination. Monetary donations will also be accepted that will go to the purchase of additional gift cards. Silent auction items will be available to bid on with all proceeds going to benefit our service project.

Contact Officer Amanda Woods at [email protected] or 277-4453 for additional information on the event, sponsorship information, or if you are unable to attend but wish to make a donation to the service project.
