Starting July 21, 2014, Lansdale Police will begin public notification of important alerts using NIXLE, a free and secure service.
The Lansdale Police Department is proud to announce that effective July 21, 2014 the Department will launch a new communications service that allows us to send important, valuable community information directly to residents using the latest technology.
The Nixle Community Information Service allows us to create, publish and deliver messages to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s web site at www.nixle.com.
Messages may include emergency notifications such as missing children, road closures, police activity as well as other relevant safety and community event information.
Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre and Borough Manager Timothea M. Kirchner encourage all Lansdale residents and business owners to sign up for this secure and free service.
Chief McDyre – “The safety of our citizens is paramount in the Borough of Lansdale. Our community deserves the best when it comes to staying informed about incidents affecting them.” “In my research, I’ve determined that Nixle is the service that best implements community notifications with the speed our citizens deserve and have come to expect.”
Ms. Kirchner - “Nixle is the next step we are taking to keep in touch with our residents and business owners. We are in an immediate information age and to many of the people we serve, their phones are as important as their keys or wallets. This free service, with quick and easy registration, keeps everyone connected to local matters that are important to the Lansdale community.”
Alert messages can be sent directly to residents registered within a quarter mile radius, giving them the opportunity to receive trustworthy information relevant to their neighborhood. Residents decide which local agencies they want to receive information from and subscribers can also choose the way in which alerts are received, whether it is by email, text message or the web.
Nixle builds on the foundations of other public-to-public communication services, such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, but adds a key component: security. When citizens receive information from our agency via Nixle, they know it can be trusted.
Residents of Lansdale and those in neighboring communities can immediately begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email and web by registering at www.nixle.com.
We are very excited for the citizens of Lansdale to experience it for themselves.
