#LASD Lakewood Station DUI/CDL Checkpoint, City of Paramount, Friday, July 18th, 2014, Nets 3 Arrests

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lakewood Station conducted a DUI/CDL Checkpoint on Friday, July 18th, 2014 as part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department commitment to public safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been, or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Paramount. The location of Friday’s checkpoint was on Rosecrans Avenue at Garfield Avenue, in the city of Paramount and was conducted between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

This DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint lowers DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drug impaired, bring about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.

945 Vehicles through the Checkpoint
945 Drivers Checked at the Checkpoint
2 Standard Field Sobriety Tests were administered.
1 DUI – Drug (Marijuana) and driving on a suspended license suspect arrested.
1 Possession of Marijuana in a vehicle suspect arrested and sent to court.
1 Possession of a concealed loaded firearm and possession of a stolen loaded firearm suspect arrested.
1 vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

AS A DRIVER, PLAN AHEAD WITH THESE TIPS:

Arrange rides home for your friends, family, co-workers and yourself before the drinking begins

Identify and provide free non-alcoholic drinks or other promotional items to the Designated Driver

Party hosts and servers must limit drinks to your guests or patrons. Don’t serve more than one or two over several hours.

Cut back on the amount of drinks you plan to bring to the party – and provide plenty of food.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety http://www.ots.ca.gov/ through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/
