Sheriff Sanders warns of a possible phone scam; this one involving failure to report for jury duty, warrant being issued and owing a fine.

The Garland County Sheriff's Office received two notifications of a probable phone scam this afternoon of 2 County residents being contacted by phone and being told that they had not reported for jury duty. In both cases, the caller identified themselves as being "law enforcement" and that warrants had been issued for their arrest, one with a $250.00 fine being owed.

One of the residents were told that they could pay their fine (this one did not have a fine amount mentioned) at the Clerk's Office.

On return phone call, the numbers given play the standard "number has been disconnected" message and we feel that the persons responsible are using an internet based service to clone local numbers.

Sheriff Sanders would like to remind everyone that these types of unsolicited phone calls are usually the result of scammer's attempting to get you to remit funds and/or release identifiable information.

Please use caution and diligence when receiving any type of phone call that attempts to get personal information or money from you.
