Update: Attempted Double Homicide / Robbery Investigations
On Sunday, August 3, 2014, at approximately 12:26 am, the Campbell Police Department received a report of gunshots heard in the area of Campbell Avenue and Union Avenue. Upon officers’ arrival, they located two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the First Bank, 790 E. Campbell Avenue.
While officers were investigating the shooting, there was a report of a robbery that had just occurred in the area of Second Street and Civic Center Drive in Downtown Campbell. The suspect in that incident robbed the victim at gunpoint and it is believed this incident happened less than 10 minutes prior to the shooting. At this time, it appears that the suspect responsible for shooting and robbery are associated.
The initial investigation leads detectives to believe that there is at least one suspect involved in the shooting. He is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties to early thirties, 5’6” to 5’10” tall, thin to medium build, with dark hair. One witness believed he was possibly wearing a hat with long hair coming out from underneath (unknown if this was a disguise). The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene of the shooting in a dark colored sedan.
The victims of the shooting, a 22 year old female and a 31 year old male, are currently in the hospital recovering from their injuries and are expected to survive. Fortunately, the 25 year old female victim of the robbery was unharmed.
The Campbell Police Department is concerned by these two incidents and committed to keeping our community safe. Because of this, the department is devoting its full resources towards identifying and apprehending the suspect(s). Anyone with information regarding either of the two incidents should contact the Campbell Police Department at 408-866-2101. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP (7867).
