CHP arrest of an impaired hit-and-run driver nets 84 lbs of pre-packaged Marijuana for sale.

A citizen reported a collision to a CHP Officer clearing an enforcement stop on the right shoulder of southbound I-5 north of Templin Highway. The citizen advised the collision occurred north of the officer's location and that the involved vehicle, a white Chevy, crashed into the guardrail and fled the scene southbound driving erratically. The officer located the Chevy traveling southbound weaving in lanes just north of Lake Hughes Road. An enforcement stop was initiated and the Chevy yielded, exiting the freeway and coming to a stop on The Old Road, north of Lake Hughes Road. The entire right side of the Chevy displayed damage consistent with guardrail damage. The driver confirmed his involvement in the crash and exhibited obvious signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests were administered and the driver was arrested for 23152 (a) Driving Under the Influence and 20002 (a) V.C. Hit and Run. Subsequent to his arrest, approximately 84 lbs of pre-packaged Marijuana was located within the Chevy. The driver was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for medical clearance and subsequently booked as charged at Santa Clarita Sheriff's Department.
