Unfortunately I need to send this advisory out again. We are not reaching enough people to express the need to be cautious of these scams.
Recently, another of our citizens fell victim to the Green Dot SCAM.
Please take a minute and forward this to all your friends, family, and co-workers.
Please be aware of one of the latest phone scams in the area.
The suspects call claiming to be a Duke Energy representative. The victim is told their power bill was not paid and will be immediately shut off if a $1000 payment is not made. The victim is then instructed to place the funds on a Green Dot / Money Pak card and provide the card account number to the representative. The funds would then be remotely depleted from the cards.
Please share this information with your local businesses and friends so that they do not become a victim of this fraud.
