Parks Bureau Detectives Arrest Man Accused of Abandoning a Six Year Old in the Park
This morning, August 7, 2014, Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments Parks Bureau arrested Juan Garcia, male Hispanic, 31 years of age, resident of Pomona for Child Endangerment. On Monday, August 4, 2014, at 9:40 p.m., Parks Bureau deputies responded to Legg Lake located in the Whittier Narrows Regional Park, (750 s. Santa Anita Ave., South El Monte) regarding a found child. They were contacted by a person who found a six year old child who was crying as he was looking for his father. The deputies investigated and attempted to locate the father with the limited information that a young child can provide. The child who was cold and hungry was placed in the deputy’s patrol car and fed while the Parks Bureau personnel continued to search. A vehicle believed to be driven by Suspect Garcia was located with a flat tire, but the Suspect was nowhere to be found. The child was placed into protective custody at 1:00 a.m. after all attempts to locate the father had been exhausted. The child’s mother was later located and took custody of her son. Suspect Garcia was placed under arrest and booked at San Dimas Station where he is being held in lieu of $100,000.00 bail. He will appear in court on Monday, August 11, 2014.
