Polk County Sheriff’s Office Discovers and Makes Arrest from Land O’Lakes Break-In After Drug Arrest
The Sheriff’s Office was conducting a license check point when a pick-up truck came through and was checked. Deputies notice suspicious activity amongst the occupants in the vehicle. After speaking with both the driver and the passenger, the passenger was in possession of a variety of prescription drugs.
Sheriff’s deputies found Erik Charping to be in possession of four different types of controlled substances. Those being Clonazepam, Oxycodone, Hydrocodon-Acetaminoph, and Promethazine all being in their original prescription bottles prescribed to different individuals.
After Charping was questioned regarding how he got the pills, he stated he had been given permission to go into the residence of the names listed on the prescription bottles and get them for safe keeping.
After Investigators went to the residence in the Silver Creek Community formerly know as Land O'Lakes, numerous broken windows were found. The victim was notified by detectives that her home had been broken into in which she arrived and met with them. It was discovered with damages there at the property and items stolen totaled in excess of $10,000. Sheriff’s detectives are still working the case to try and locate some of the belongings that were taken.
Charping, 18 years of age gave an address of Fox Mountain Road in Columbus. He was charged with two counts Felony Trafficking Opium, Misdemeanor Simple Possession Schedule IV, Felony Breaking and Entering, three counts of Felony Larceny, and Damage to Personal Property. He is currently out on a $72,500.00 bond with a next court appearance August 27.
