The Mercersburg Police Department would like to remind area residents to be alert to possible driveway sealing and related scams.

There have been reports of individuals from out of the area offering driveway work at reduced rates. Pennsylvania law requires all contractors to register with the office of the Pennsylvania’s Attorney General if performing work at a private residence.

Residences are reminded to check with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection at their hotline number (888) 520-6680 to determine if the contractor is registered.

Additionally, we would remind residents if the offer appears too good to be true, it likely is. Individuals are urged to contact their area police departments if they suspect fraudulent work, scams or other transient businesses in their community.
