Fruitport Township Police Department Investigating Car-Bicycle Crash
At approximately 9:44 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014, emergency units responded to the 2000 block of E. Broadway Ave. in Fruitport Township for a personal injury crash involving a car and a bicycle.
A 20-year-old male bicyclist was struck by a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old male. Both involved parties are from the Muskegon County area. Fruitport Township Fire Department, Fruitport Township Police Department, and ProMed Ambulance responded to the scene.
The driver of the car was not injured. The bicyclist was transported from the scene by ProMed Ambulance to be treated for multiple injuries sustained in the crash. The bicyclist was later air-lifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. He is currently in stable condition at that location.
The area where this incident took place is an unlighted portion of roadway. The bicyclist did not have a light on his bicycle (required by law during darkness), and he was not wearing high visibility / reflective clothing or a bicycle helmet (recommended). The crash is still under investigation.
No further information about this incident, including the names of the involved parties, is being released at this time.
