This Thursday the 21st, the NCSO will be partnering with numerous agencies including Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, Nash County Emergency Management, RMPD, Spring Hope PD, and others to conduct an Active Shooter Scenario. This scenario will be conducted at Southern Nash Middle School on NC 581. The purpose of this scenario is to conduct a mock active shooter situation, and the scenario will be used by the School System to test and implement their REUNIFICATION procedures for students and staff, so that in the event of a real situation, they are prepared to evacuate and re-unify your children with their parents in a safe environment. We all are aware that in a real life event that it will be very chaotic, so the purpose of the exercises like this one are to make the mistakes now, so that in a real life event, we hope that everything will run according to plans. This exercise is being conducted this week before school starts, therefore no students or children will be present during this scenario. All students roles will be played by school staff members.

We are notifying you of this event, so that if you are in the area and see a heavy police presence, that you will know what is going on, and realize that it is only a training scenario and that there is nothing for you to be alarmed about. For our listeners who are scanner junkies, this information applies to you as well, as you may hear radio traffic that sounds of a real life emergency, but it will only be an exercise.
