The topic of home invasion has been on the minds of residents in Huron Township this week, following three overnight break-ins that occurred between Monday and Tuesday.
Good news for residents of the community — Huron Police arrested a 26 year old Huron Township resident on Thursday, Aug. 21 after a witness tipped off the police to a home invasion in progress, according to Huron Police Chief Everette Robbins.
The home invasion took place in the 22000 block of Marquee, Robbins said.
The resident who witnessed the home invasion called Huron Township Dispatch and informed Dispatcher Meredith Foster that an adult male was observed entering a residence through an unsecured window.
Foster relayed the information to the patrol staff, and Huron Officer Brian Tyitye was first to respond to the scene.
Officer Tyitye made entry into the home and took the 26 year old male into custody.
Robbins said that at the time of the arrest, the suspect had an iPad, jewelry and gift cards in his possession. All stolen property from the home was recovered.
Robbins says that his department is actively working to see if the arrested suspect is involved with the other occupied home invasions that occurred earlier in the week.
The investigation is ongoing and the suspects name is not being released at this time due to his pending arraignment.
“This arrest illustrates the good things that can happen when all partners pull together,” said Robbins.
“When you add the great work by Dispatcher Meredith Foster getting the information collected and out to patrol staff with the quick response, and good police work by Officer Tyitye, great progress can me made for a safer community.”
The Huron Township Police Department has requested the assistance of federal, state and Western Wayne agencies to assist in investigating these crimes.
