City Council will meet at 6;00 p.m. at Lincoln High School to discuss the city's utilities. This is a public meeting.

City Officials to Address Challenges Facing Utilities System

City officials from Shinnston will address issues with their public utilities at an open meeting August 25th.

The meeting is a regularly-scheduled work session of city council, and will be held at Lincoln High School’s auditorium to allow for a larger audience. The utilities issue will be the only item on the agenda for discussion.

The water and sewer utilities are facing infrastructure issues relating to the age of the system and its component pieces. Those infrastructure problems have led to an increased strain on the finances in the water and sewer fund.

The city has drafted an improvement plan to address the system’s shortcomings and ways to improve the situation. That plan will be presented in detail at the meeting by Assistant City Manager Travis Blosser.

Part of the improvement plan includes installation of new filters at the water treatment facility. That process is currently underway.

All Shinnston utilities customers, both residents and non-residents of the city, are encouraged to attend. The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. There will be a period for general questions from the audience.
