Brief traffic interruptions on the SR-60 freeway due to Southern California Edison Contstruction in South El Monte.
SUBJECT: Southern California Edison (SCE) Construction Activities in Your Area – Helicopter Activity
Dear neighbor,
We’re writing to provide another important update about the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) and construction activities within South El Monte to support electric system upgrades. We want to point out the activities you’ll see and hear, including periodic helicopter operation in the immediate vicinity,
and the helpful steps you can take to minimize any temporary disturbances during this work.
Beginning September 4 and continuing through September 15, 2014, project crews will be installing new wires (SCE telecommunication and upgraded 500 kilovolt transmission wires) on electric transmission structures in the utility right-of-way corridor in your area.
Anticipated Construction Schedule (Note: this schedule may change depending on weather and otherfactors)
Thurs, Sept. 4 – Sat, Sept. 6: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sun, Sept. 7: 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Mon, Sept. 8 – Mon. Sept. 15: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
(excluding Sun, Sept. 14)
Location:
Along a portion of the utility right-of-way corridor that spans from a site north of the 60 Fwy in South ElMonte to a location south of the 60 Fwy in unincorporated Los Angeles County (see attached map)
What you can expect to see:
Helicopter operation: A small helicopter will be used to position equipment and personnel.
There will be periods when the helicopter will hover in the project area to perform these activities. There will be periods of increased noise during this activity.
Traffic interruptions: There will be periods of brief traffic interruptions during this work to Ensure the safety of the public and project personnel:
o On the 60 Fwy (Sunday, September 7 from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
only)
o On Peck Road south of the 60 Fwy
o Each periodic traffic interruption may be three (3) to five (10)
minutes in duration, under approval and in coordination with local
jurisdictions
o A combination of traffic control signs and crew members with flags
will be used during the entire wire installation process
While dust during construction activities cannot be completely eliminated, you will also see a water truck periodically spraying water at work sites during operation of construction equipment and vehicles to help reduce fugitive dust. This is being performed in accordance with the project’s dust control guidelines.
Steps to help minimize construction impacts
We appreciate your patience and are making every effort to minimize potential impacts during this work. SCE is committed to ensuring the safety of the public and project personnel during this work.
Additionally, here are a few simple tips that may help you reduce construction disturbance:
Close windows and doors facing the construction area to reduce noise and dust
Watch for project updates to ensure you have the most up-to-date information about project activities
in your area
