Garth Brooks concert this weekend means very heavy traffic.
TRAFFIC ALERT
GARTH BROOKS
The Allstate Arena in Rosemont will be hosting the return of Garth Brooks to the concert stage. Eleven concerts have been scheduled over the course of the next two weekends. The first concert starts tonight, September 4, 2014 at 7:30 pm with doors opening at 6:00 pm.
Heavy traffic is expected around the Arena on each of the concert nights. Traffic issues will be further compounded on the Friday and Saturday of this week and next, as a result of a second show being added on each night. The first show on both Fridays and Saturdays will begin at 6:00pm with a second show scheduled to follow at 10:30pm. Parking lots for the second show will not be open until 9:00pm on each night. Fans attending the second show are asked not to arrive at the venue before 9:00pm in order to accommodate the fans leaving the first show.
Fans are urged to use the FREE remote parking lot at 1011 Touhy Ave in Des Plaines with free shuttle service provided to and from the Arena. Additional free parking is available in the parking lot at 6810 N Mannheim Rd (just south of the Arena).
Because of the sold out status of the events and the back-to-back shows on Fridays and Saturdays, the Public Safety Department is expecting much heavier than normal traffic in the area around the Arena on each of the concert nights. Concertgoers are strongly advised to allow extra travel time because all roadways surrounding the Arena are expected to be impacted by the heavy traffic, including the westbound I-90 (Jane Adams Tollway) approaching the Lee St exit ramp. Major road construction continues in both directions of Mannheim Road, from Higgins Road, South to Irving Park Road and on Lee Street over the I-90.
The Public Safety Department is recommending that motorists not attending the concert to avoid the area around the Allstate Arena if possible, until after the concert start time.
