SINGLE VEHICLE ROLLOVER CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF 19 YEAR OLD MUSKEGON COUNTY MAN
Emergency responders were dispatched to a one-car rollover crash near the 2 mile-marker of westbound I-96 at approximately 5:38 a.m. on Sunday, September 07, 2014. The driver of the involved vehicle, THOMAS WAYNE CHANDLER (a 19-year-old Muskegon County man), was killed in the crash. His 22-year-old passenger, also a Muskegon County man, survived the crash.
The passenger was initially transported from the scene by ambulance to Hackley Hospital for evaluation. He was later released from the hospital with minor injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigation at the scene indicates the vehicle left the roadway on the median side of the roadway, came back onto the road, and left the roadway again on the right shoulder of the road – at which time the vehicle rolled over.
One lane of the highway was shut down temporarily while emergency responders remained on scene.
Assisting at the scene were Fruitport Township Police Department, Fruitport Township Fire Department, and ProMed Ambulance.
The crash is still under investigation. No further information is being released at this time.
