*NEIGHBORHOOD ALERT - AGGRESSIVE DOOR-TO-DOOR SALESPEOPLE*
The GCSO has received multiple calls recently from citizens reporting aggressive door to door salespeople. While it is legal for these sales persons to sell their products in the unincorporated areas of the county, we would like to recommend some tips on how to handle an overly aggressive salesperson if you become uncomfortable with their tactics or do not wish to have salespeople enter upon your property.
- Do not open the door to unexpected visitors or those who aren't wearing an easily identifiable uniform - it's not considered rude to speak to people thru the door, you're just being cautious
- If you are uninterested in buying their products or listening to their sales pitch, immediatly ask them to leave your property
- If they refuse to leave call 911 and report the situation
- Clearly post your property with a no trespassing and/or no soliciting sign to help deter visits from salespeople
- If a property owner then has someone trespass on their property, call 911 to report it
If you want to file a complaint against a salesperson or the business they represent, you can contact the Better Business Bureau at 417-862-4222 or the Missouri Attorney General's Office at 1-800-392-8222. Both also have online reporting forms available on their websites
