DUI CHECKPOINT IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREA OF ROWLAND HEIGHTS

Santa Fe Springs – On Friday, September 12, 2014, at approximately 8:00 pm, the CHP will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Unincorporated Area of Rowland Heights.

The Checkpoint will be staffed by CHP Officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and or impaired drivers. The officers will also be equipped with state of the art hand-held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood alcohol concentrations of suspected drunk drivers. Motorists approaching the sobriety checkpoint will see informational signs advising them that a checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into the lane, motorists will be detained only for a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint. CHP sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersoll vs. Palmer.

“Each year thousands of Californians are adversely affected by impaired drivers, the most severe consequences being death and disabling injuries. The California Highway Patrol urges you to make a difference this holiday season. If you intend to drink, Designate a Sober Driver. If a loved one has had one too many drinks, stop a tragedy from occurring; don’t let them drive drunk. The California Highway Patrol’s priority is saving lives,” said Captain David Moeller, “and our tools are education and enforcement. DUI checkpoints are an effective tool in educating motorists and in removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”

Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and or/drugs can expect to be arrested and count on spending the rest of the evening in the county jail.
