SPECIAL MESSAGE ON STATEWIDE DROUGHT EMERGENCY
SPECIAL MESSAGE ON STATEWIDE DROUGHT EMERGENCY
Dear Monte Vista Water District Customer,
California is in severe drought. In response, state regulators have taken the unprecedented step of imposing restrictions on the use of drinking water:
• No excess runoff from outdoor watering
• No hosing down of driveways or sidewalks
• No washing vehicles without a shut-off nozzle
• No using water in fountains or other water features without recirculation
In addition, water suppliers must limit outdoor water use and report monthly usage data to the state. In 2010, Monte Vista Water District’s Board of Directors adopted an ordinance requiring all customers to follow water use efficiency “best practices.” These common-sense measures already incorporate the state mandated restrictions, and include limits on outdoor watering to between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. (with exceptions, such as hand-watering). To learn more about our best practices, visit www.mvwd.org and click on “Water Conservation.”
The District has begun and will continue to increase communications and, if needed, enforcement of its existing requirements. After multiple courtesy notifications, the District may levy fines on violators of these requirements. The maximum fine currently authorized per violation is $150.
