Hit and run fatality at the intersection of Avenue 50 and San Marcos Place in Northeast Area
Los Angeles- On Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 7:50 p.m., a fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision occurred at the intersection of Avenue 50 and San Marco Place in Northeast Area.
Gloria Ortiz, , 57 years old of Los Angeles, was crossing Avenue 50 in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Avenue 50. The hit and Run vehicle was described as an older model Honda Civic driven by a possible male, Hispanic. The driver never applied the brakes and fled southbound on Avenue 50. According to witnesses, the driver was possibly distracted by his cellphone. The vehicle possibly has damage to the front windshield.
Ms. Ortiz was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital by paramedics from LAFD. Despite lifesaving efforts, Ortiz succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m. She is survived by her two adult daughters.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation and is being investigated by detectives from Central Traffic Division.
