One male in custody after fleeing from traffic stop; Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies also recover stolen vehicle
Earlier this morning shortly before noon, a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop the driver of a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck for possibly Driving While Intoxicated near S Scenic and W Walnut Lawn. The driver failed to stop and led Deputies on a brief pursuit through the southwest Springfield area before the vehicle was located in the 3000 block of W La Salle. A witness provided information he had seen a male matching the description of the suspect walking towards a home on the 2600 block of W La Salle.
Deputies quickly surrounded a home where the suspect was last seen and located a mid-30s year old white male with the assistance of a K9 unit. After GCSO K9 Lor apprehended him, the suspect continued to repeatedly assault the dog. GCSO K9 Lor retained control over the suspect and allowed Deputies to take him into custody. The suspect is receiving medical attention at a local hospital for unknown non-life threatening injuries.
After further investigation, it was also determined the vehicle driven by the suspect and later abandoned was reported stolen from Springfield.
“Thanks to the quick response of our Deputies along with the help of an observant citizen we were able to locate a possibly impaired driver and get him off the streets, making for a safer Greene County,” said Sheriff Jim Arnott.
