LASD Community College Bureau Bicycle Safety Tips
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) – Community College Bureau would like to heighten awareness on bicycle safety to the campus population, across the nine Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) campuses, our bureau serves;
• Use a bicycle light when riding a bicycle at night.
• Obey all traffic laws.
• Pay attention to your surroundings.
• Take extra care when passing parking lot exits or driving through parking lots.
• Give proper hand signals when turning or stopping.
• Secure your bicycle with a heavy duty U-lock or chain to a bike rack or fixed object. When possible, lock at least your front wheel and frame to a bike rack.
• Utilize a second lock/chain so you can lock your wheels to the bike to prevent them from being stolen from the bicycle frame.
• Do not park your bicycle in a doorway, on stairs, or blocking any handicapped access.
• Engrave or permanently mark your bicycle with an identifying number in case the bicycle is stolen, it can be identified when it is recovered.
• Take photos of your bicycle in case it is stolen you can provide a picture of the bike to law enforcement.
• To prevent the theft of your bicycle, do not leave your bicycle locked up overnight on the campus grounds.
The LASD Community College Bureau is dedicated to the safety of the students & staff our bureau serves and is providing these tips as a reminder to everyone who utilizes a bicycle.
