Prescription Medication Take back program in Maypearl
NATIONAL TAKE BACK INITIATIVE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2014
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
104 East Second Street
(CITY HALL PARKING LOT)
On September 27, 2014, from 10am-2pm, the Maypearl Police Department will co-operate with the DEA in a collaborative effort with other state and local law enforcement agencies in a collection event focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. A national take-back day will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our citizens to dispose of expired or unused medication”, said Chief Kevin Coffey. “A lot of times people find themselves storing large amounts of medication that they no longer use, or that belonged to a family member that has passed away, or various other reasons or simply because they just don’t know what to do with them. This program gives people a way of safely disposing of old, expired or unwanted medication in a safe and proper manner rather than just throwing it in the trash or flushing it down the toilet."
The Maypearl event will have a manned drive through drop off of these materials in the small parking lot in front of City Hall at 104 East Second Street from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday September 27th.
