Wednesday - 9/24
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning for low relative humidity and increased winds today from 11am to 11pm. The increased winds may cause a change in fire behavior, including increased smoke and a visible column from the fire. Please be especially fire cautious - we don't want to add another fire to the one we already have!
The Incident Management Team may be sending several engine strike teams (groups of five fire engines with a leader) to the Tahoe area today to familiarize themselves with the area and roads. This doesn't reflect a heightened risk from the King Fire - we still don't see a threat to communities in our area - it's an opportunity for those resources to get some eyes on the terrain on this side of the hill and since we have equipment and people assigned to the fire, it is valuable 'backfill' for local departments during this Red Flag event. Please make them feel welcome if you come across them!
Thanks to everyone who took the time to attend the Community Meeting in Squaw Valley last night. We had a fantastic turnout (400-450 people) and everyone left with a better understanding of the current and forecast fire situation and a greater comfort level with how it is being managed. We appreciate the good work of the Incident Management Team and our other speakers in preparing such concise and understandable presentations and for taking the time to meet with our community! If you were unable to attend the Squaw Valley event, they will be presenting again tonight at 7pm at the North Tahoe High School auditorium.
