On 09/25/2014 just before 3:00 pm, wanted non-compliant registered sex offender 27 year old Corey Alan Witsman was located and apprehended in the 600 block of Mikemoore Dr in Edon, Ohio, and taken into custody without incident. Witsman was wanted out of Steuben County, Indiana on 2 arrest warrants charging Witsman with allegedly violation terms of probation and allegedly violating Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry law. Witsman was on probation following a 2013 sex offense conviction and was the subject of a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an alleged sex offender registry violation. Once information was received by the Sheriff’s Office that Witsman had possibly fled the area, Sheriff’s detectives reached out to the US Marshals Service Northern District of Indiana to assist in the fugitive investigation to locate and apprehend Witsman. The Williams County (OH) Sheriff’s Office and the Edon Police Department assisted the US Marshals Service with apprehending Witsman. Witsman was booked into the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio and remains held awaiting extradition back to Steuben County. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who assisted with tips and information.
