Eustis Police Department Supports the Fight against Breast Cancer
[Eustis, FL] – The month of October is nationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and during the past several years, the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure have led a public awareness campaign. The color pink, particularly pink ribbons have been used to symbolize breast cancer awareness.
During the month of October, members of the Eustis Police Department will wear a pink band on their badges as a way to encourage and support awareness. Chief Fred Cobb said he has always felt it was important to support breast cancer awareness because cancer is a disease that affects everyone. “Even members of our department have been affected, when several of their family members have become victims of this disease,” said Chief Cobb. Lieutenant Ken Birkhofer, who came up with the idea of the pink bands, said, “We all know someone who has suffered breast cancer, wearing the pink band is a way to show our support and encourage awareness in the battle to end breast cancer.” The Eustis Police Department is ALWAYS there to support the fight!
