Valdez Police respond to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound
Valdez Police and Fire Department personnel responded to reports
of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence on West Klutina late Tuesday night.
At approximately 7:26 p.m., Valdez Police Dispatch received a welfare check
request from the parents of Valdez resident, Ms. Christy Hollembaek. The
callers stated their daughter called them moments earlier threatening to kill
herself at her friend’s home in Valdez.
Valdez Police Lieutenant Dan Mott arrived on scene just as Police Dispatch
received a call from Mr. Darrell Farmer, stating Ms. Hollembaek needed
immediate medical assistance at his residence. While eating dinner, Mr. Farmer reported hearing the sound of a gunshot from one of his back bedrooms. He stated he rushed to the location of the sound and discovered Ms. Hollembaek with what appeared to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At approximately 7:36 p.m., Valdez Fire Department emergency medical
personnel responded to the scene. Responders performed cardiopulmonary
resuscitation on Ms. Hollembaek and transported her to Providence Valdez
Medical Center for treatment. Ms. Hollembaek succumbed to her injuries at
10:30 p.m.
Ms. Hollembaek’s next of kin have been notified. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the Valdez Police Department.
