Advisory

Lansdale residents report fraudulent calls from fake Treasury Department employees.

Two residents recently reported receiving fraudulent phone calls from men claiming to be employees from the Treasury Department. Both men had foreign accents and called from two different phone numbers with a (619) area code. (619) covers the San Diego area south to the Mexico border.

The first resident reported that the caller, who claimed his name was Steve Martin with the Treasury Department, told them they needed to pay a fee in order to clean up their past criminal history. The resident didn't fall for the dirty, rotten scoundrels' ploy. (Author's shameless pun intended).

The second resident received a message on their answering machine also from a male with a foreign accent who didn't identify himself telling the resident that if they did not call him back they would be arrested. The resident did not fall for the ploy as well.
