There will be a regular city council meeting tonight at 6:30 PM at Lytle City Hall. These meetings are open meetings and anyone can attend. If you get bored you can always get up and leave.
Our National Night Out event went really well. It was nice to have the extra space and the new location. Over 350 hot dogs were served and we just about ran out of everything. I’ll have to plan for a few more people next year so we don’t run out. Special thanks to the following organizations and businesses for helping the event be a huge success: Lytle VFW (cooked and served hot dogs), Little Caesar's (provided hot dogs and buns), HEB (provided chips and supplies to make cookies), Lytle High School Culinary Arts (Awesome cookies!), Lytle Public Works (lots of set up and take down), Lytle Park Service, Lytle United Methodist Church (for use of their parking lot) and the Lytle Fire Dept. for opening up their facilities to us and their cool displays). We also were fortunate to have representatives from the Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Office, Lytle 4H Club, and the Atascosa Co. Family Crisis Center. I hope I didn’t forget anyone. A big thank you goes to all those that took time to attend, without them we would still be eating left over hot dogs.
We unveiled Neighborhood Watch signs in the Coalmine Community and in the Lakeshore Estates Subdivision. We look forward to continue working with these communities and their dedicated residents. Both of those communities held their own NNO events. Coalmine reported about 75 residents attended and it appeared the Lakeshore event was also well attended. On a personal note I was able to resist the hot dogs at our event, (although the chocolate chip cookies from the Culinary Arts program at the LHS really caused me to stumble, I won’t provide the number of them I ate). In Coalmine they upped the ante and had chili for their hot dogs, I somehow resisted. When I made to Lakeshore I finally lost what self control I had left and dined on some awesome sandwich rolls. It was really great to see all those involved I just wish I had time that night to talk to more people; we covered as much ground as we could.
Tuesday was a long night and I started again early Wednesday morning as Mayor Bowen, Captain Reyes and I attended the grand opening of the Wal-Mart in Devine at 7:30 AM. It is a really nice addition to the area. Devine has also been supportive of our businesses and events and it was our turn to return the favor. There is no truth to the rumor that I played some special music on the loudspeaker of my patrol unit that caused all the shoplifters to follow me out of Lytle and over to Devine. I’m not the Pied Piper.
