On September 27 Polk County Sheriff's Office participated in North Carolina Operation Pill Drop. Operation Pill Drop is a state wide program in conjunction with North Carolina Department of Justice and a partnership with Safe Kids North Carolina, the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement to collect and safely destroy these drugs during Operation Medicine Drop.

There were locations set up at various sites throughout the county with a total of 12,085 pills collected. There was an additional pill drop October 7 that took place at Tryon Estates where an additional 11,156 pills were collected from the residence of that community. With these collections the Sheriff's Office has collected over 106 pounds of pills through various operations during 2014.

This is a very recognizable amount that we want to thank the citizens of Polk County for helping us in getting these drugs off the streets for potential abuse. If you may have missed a pill drop throughout the year, you may drop them off at the sheriff's office which has been designated as a permanent drop site.
