LAKE LURE POLICE DEPARTMENT- Advisory Scam Alert
LAKE LURE - SCAM ALERT
On October 10th, a local business was called by a man claiming to be a Duke Energy representative. He told the local business owner that there was a back due bill of $1000 and in order to not have their electricity disrupted, the business owner would need to go to a place such as CVS and get a type of cash card for $498.12, then call him back with the number on the back of the card. Luckily the business owner was quickly aware this was a scam.
On October 15th, the man claiming to be from Duke Energy, called the same business owner again and demanded the same transaction be made in order to spare the business an electrical service disruption.
