Downey Police Department Introduces Newly Designed Neighborhood Watch Signs

The Downey Police Department Neighborhood Watch has redesigned their signs with a new look that incorporates the new City logo. The modernized design promotes the partnership between the Police Department and Community. The new signs will be distributed at Neighborhood Watch meetings.

There are currently 155 active Neighborhood Watch groups in Downey. The program’s newly established groups are required to conduct a series of three meetings highlighting the programs three core principles. The first meeting introduces residents to the program, City Councilmembers and Downey Police Officers. In the initial meeting, members are encouraged to meet with neighbors and given the opportunity to express their neighborhood concerns. During the second meeting members receive instruction on how to enhance their observation skills and when to report suspicious activity to police. In the third meeting, members are introduced to the idea of Emergency Preparedness. Downey’s Community Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and Emergency Preparedness Committee (E.P.C.) introduce residents to the fundamentals of emergency preparedness and disaster preparation.

Once the three core principle meetings are completed, groups are encouraged to continue holding meetings where residents discuss their concerns and request guest speakers.
