Another Project Lifesaver Success!
This morning members of the NCSO and Nash County Fire Marshal's Office responded to the report of a missing person from the 5000 block of Drake Road. The victim, who suffers from some type of cognitive impairment, wandered off from her home and had been gone since early this morning.
Upon setting up a Command Post at Red Oak Fire Department, NCSO units began deploying tracking equipment used for Project Lifesaver. Within an hour, the victim was located safely and unharmed at the edge of a wooded area less then one mile from her home. She was located after tracking her signal near her location and narrowing it down until she was found and returned home safely to her family. Due to the technology of Project Lifesaver, the victim was located quickly. Without it, many man hours would have been utilized to try and find the victim.
How does Project Lifesaver work?
Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. If an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver notifies their local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. Most who wander are found within a few miles from home, and search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes. Recovery times for PLI clients average 30 minutes — 95% less time than standard operations.
