POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND TRYON POLICE DEPARTMENT BUST UP LARGE "RED P" METHAMPHETAMINE LAB

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office along with Tryon Police Department received complaints from some citizens in the neighborhood of suspicious activities from the residence located a 241 Hidden Hills Road in Tryon. The Sheriff’s Office and Tryon Police Department began conducting surveillance on the residence and monitoring activities of the occupants. The resident was located not far from Tryon Elementary School along with Forbes Preschool.

Timothy Lee Bryson and his girlfriend resided at this resident along with her 10 year old son when a search warrant of the residence was issued by a superior court judge on Thursday afternoon and executed. Once entry was made into the residence, officers found an active methamphetamine lab where Bryson was in the process of actually making meth product at the time.

The lab type is known as a “Red P.” This meaning the byproducts of this type of lab produce phosphine gases which are extremely toxic and hazardous. This is the first time a meth lab of this kind has been found in Polk County, this makes only the fifth in the state for the year.

Meth labs can cause long term respiratory problems to even death which is why the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Clandestine Lab Unit along with chemists responded to aid in the cleanup. This is standard procedure due to the high level of hazardous and toxic materials that has to be disposed of by certified technicians.

Timothy Lee Bryson, 37 of 241 Hidden Hills Road Tryon was arrested and charged with Felony Manufacture Methamphetamine, Felon Possession Methamphetamine Precursors, Felony Maintain Vehicle/ Dwell/Place of Controlled Substance, and Manufacture/Sale/Deliver Controlled Substance within 1000 ft. of School. He is currently being held on a $146,000.00 secured bond and first appearance scheduled for today.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Tryon Police Department was assisted with the cleanup by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Tryon Fire Department. The case is still under investigations with additional arrests yet to come.
