Message from ACSO Regarding Halloween
SHERIFF’S OFFICE PLANS HALLOWEEN HOME CHECKS
Anderson, SC (Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:15a.m.)
Sheriff’s deputies will be out on Halloween this year; but they won’t be trick-or-treating. They’ll be verifying the addresses of sex offenders in Anderson County.
The Sheriff’s Office currently manages 480 offenders and strives to keep the citizens of Anderson County safe by conducting random address verifications on them all. Halloween is the only time that verifications are announced ahead of time. This year, deputies will be checking offenders who live in populated areas and have convictions involving young children.
Per Sheriff Skipper, “I want offenders to know that we will be out that evening checking to make sure that our children are safe. To help us out, I encourage residents to check the Sex Offender Search link on our webpage so they can avoid those houses when trick-or-treating. Parents can find out which offenders currently live in their area and they can even sign-up to get an email alert if an offender moves into their neighborhood. Our webpage address is www.andersonsheriff.org.”
Last month, the Sheriff’s Office and members of the U.S. Marshal Service conducted an aggressive compliance sweep of all 480 sex offenders living in Anderson County. Nine offenders could not be located and warrants for their arrest were issued. Since then, five of the nine have been found and taken into custody. The remaining four are Lewis Cowan, Sherrada Davis, Alvin Ellis, and Landus Gaines.
Sheriff Skipper added, “If you have information concerning the location of these offenders, please let us know. And, if you are out on Halloween night and see something of concern, please call us. Remember, we need your help to keep our community safe. Have a Happy Halloween.”
