Arrest of Registered Sex Offender for Predatory Sexual Assault

Details: On October 28, 2014 at 8:26 p.m. the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was notified that a woman had been raped earlier that day. She reported that the male who had raped her was known to her. They had been spending time together when the two went onto the grounds of the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The rape took place on the grounds of the now abandoned facility. The victim was subsequently treated and released from Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
The defendant, Michael Arciola, is currently a Level 3 Registered Sex Offender registered with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services along with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department. In addition, the New York State Department of Corrections & Community Supervision were actively looking for the defendant as a Parole Absconder at the time the rape is alleged to have occurred.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department conducted a joint investigation with members of the New York State Department of Corrections & Community Supervision, Bureau of Special Services Unit. In addition, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the United States Marshall's Fugitive Task Force as well as the City of Beacon Police Department and the City of Newburgh Police Department.
Michael Arciola was arrested on October 29, 2014 at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Route 9W and Route 84 in Newburgh, N.Y.
Michael Arciola was charged by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department with Predatory Sexual Assault, a class A-II felony.
Other crimes involving the defendant are under investigation by several law enforcement agencies with additional charges expected.

Arraignment Information
Michael Arciola was arraigned on October 30, 2014 before Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Paul Sullivan. Defendant was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail with no bail. He is scheduled to reappear on November 3, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.
