Halloween safety tips
Mayor Amato would like to offer safety tips for Halloween:
Children should not go out alone even if they are only going to walk around their neighborhood. An adult or older sibling should accompany the children on their Halloween Trick or Treat rounds to keep an eye on them and make sure they are safe.
Parents should make sure that costumes use light or bright colored material and trim and make sure the costume does not interfere with the child’s vision or walking.
Encourage children to use face paint and/or make-up rather than hoods, wigs or masks that can block vision.
Give children a flashlight and fresh batteries so they can see and also, be seen by other people and cars.
Children should Trick or Treat in groups, NEVER alone.
Set a time limit for your children to Trick or Treat. Berkeley Township will have an 8pm curfew.
Designate a specific route for them to take.
Do not let children go into homes to get their treats.
Restrict Trick or Treat visits to homes with porch or outside lights on.
Remind children to obey all pedestrian safety laws, such as crossing at street corners, look left, then right, then left, before crossing, and wait for green lights.
