Advisory

Traffic Crash / OWI arrest

On Saturday, November 1, 2014, at approximately, 11:36 P.M. the Columbia Township Police Department, as well as Columbia Fire & Rescue, responded to Marshall Street and Constitution Avenue in the Village of Brooklyn for a two-vehicle personal injury accident.

A 2006 Jeep Commander, driven by Brandon Daniel Pepper, 30 years, of Addison, was traveling westbound on Marshal Street in excess of the posted 25 MPH speed limit, when he rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 16 year-old male from Brooklyn. The force of the impact pushed the Equinox into the ditch and onto its roof.

The 16 year-old male had just turned onto westbound Marshall Street (Jefferson Road) from Constitution Avenue, when the collision occurred. There were 4 other passengers in his vehicle (2013 Equinox) at the time of the accident. Pepper was the lone occupant of his vehicle.

Although both vehicles were totaled in the accident, none of the occupants suffered any injury serious enough to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. This is attributed to all the occupants wearing their seatbelts, as well as the deployment of airbags.

Pepper was believed to have been drinking, and after field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, he was arrested for OWI, and transported to Allegiance Hospital for a blood draw. After blood was drawn, and due to the extent of damage to the vehicles, Pepper was admitted for observation. He was issued a citation for OWI, to appear at a later date.
