Deputy Annie Walters, a 14 year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was recognized as the Parks Bureau Deputy of the Year at the 2014 Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon on October 30, 2014. The event is hosted each year by Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe to honor the Public Safety Officers who serve the unincorporated communities of Whittier, Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights. Deputy Walters was recognized not only for her policing of the Los Angeles County Parks but for her work with the children in the Fourth District area and throughout the County. Deputy Walters volunteered and took on the extra responsibility of being an instructor for both the RADKIDS and BRAVE Programs. Both programs are designed to teach age appropriate safety lessons to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The lessons include verbal and physical skills to defend against sexual abuse, violence, and abduction. She also volunteered and is an instructor for the Off-Highway Police Activities League (OHPAL) which is a program designed to teach local and inner city youth how to ride All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) safely. Los Angeles County Sheriff John Scott, Parks Bureau Captain Holly Perez, Deputy Walters’ husband and daughter, who is a member of the United States Air Force, were all present to share in the occasion. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
