Subject Arrested for Attempted Murder, Spindale NC
Spindale Police were dispatched to a residence in the Hopeview Estates section of New Hampshire Street at approximately 5:30 PM on Wednesday. Officers arrived to find Tarandus Donte Hampton, twenty, suffering from two gunshot wounds lying outside the residence. Hampton was initially treated by Rutherford County EMS then air-lifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from the scene. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
Witnesses state that Hampton had been involved in an argument with Rodriquez Brown, forty-two, who also lives at the residence. The argument continued outside the residence where a minor physical altercation took place. Brown went inside the residence and retrieved a handgun. He returned and sat in a vehicle parked adjacent to the residence for a few minutes. The verbal argument continued at which time Brown exited the vehicle, walked several paces towards the victim and shot him twice. Witnesses ran into the residence and called 911 for assistance. When they returned Brown threatened them and they fled to a nearby residence. Brown returned to the vehicle and left the residence.
A description of the vehicle and suspect was broadcast to local law enforcement. Brown was stopped shortly thereafter on Main Street in Forest City and taken into custody. He was charged with attempted first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently incarcerated in the Rutherford County Jail under a $325,000 secure bond.
