Lane Splits are coming November 11!

Beginning the morning of November 11, two I-15 traffic lanes will be shifted to the inside of the interstate and two lanes will be shifted to the outside, creating a work zone in the center. The split will be in place on Northbound I-15 the morning of November 11 and on Southbound I-15 the morning of November 15 between 400 North and 1500 South in Bountiful. The outside lanes will service local exits while the inside lanes will accommodate through traffic. Traffic in the inside lanes cannot access the exits and must continue on I-15 until the next exit. As part of the lane splits, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH, please pay close attention to the signs to give yourself enough time to exit. More info

The nights of November 8, 10 and 11, northbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane while crews restripe into the new split configuration. Lane restrictions will continue for barrier placement through the night of November 12.
The nights of November 13-14, southbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane while crews restripe the southbound lanes into the new configuration with barrier placement continuing through the night of November 15.
500 South
The nights of Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22, 500 South will be closed to east/west traffic at I-15 while crews demolish the center portion of the I-15 bridge overhead. The interchange ramps will remain open, but there will be no east/west traffic or pedestrian access under I-15. Use 2600 South as an alternate route.
Area residents should expect an increase in nighttime noise, light, vibration and construction activities during this work.
1500 South

The nights of Wednesday, November 19 and Thursday, November 20, 1500 South will be closed to east/west traffic at I-15 while crews demolish the center portion of the I-15 bridge overhead. Use 500 South or 2600 South as alternate routes.

2600 South

The week of November 10, crews will begin preparatory work on the southeast corner of 2600 South, between 500 West and Main Street (U.S. 89), including curb, gutter, and sidewalk removal, wall construction, and roadway widening activities through December.

Project Overview

The I-15 South Davis Improvements project will:

Add ExpressLanes in both directions from the north I-215 interchange to U.S. 89 in Farmington.
Replace aging bridges at 2600 South, 1500 South, 500 South, and 400 North.
Reconfigure the interchanges at 2600 South and 500 South in Bountiful to improve east/west mobility
Improve active transportation with better pedestrian facilities at 500 South, 400 North and Parrish Lane.
Expect single and double lane restrictions on I-15 nightly as early as 7:00 pm and as late as 7:00 am. Actual lane closure times may vary within these hours based on real time traffic numbers.

Periodic rolling traffic slowdowns will also occur at night with the assistance of the Utah Highway Patrol. These slowdowns are conducted to complete construction activities and avoid full closures of the Interstate.

Travel lanes are reduced to 11' wide. Trucks carrying loads wider than 11' should contact the UDOT Motor Carrier Division, 801-965-4892.

I-15 construction is expected to complete in spring 2015 with interchange and bridge construction continuing through summer 2015.

Information about non-UDOT projects in the area is available at the end of this email.

Plan Ahead To Reduce Delays And Impacts

I-15 will remain open without restrictions during peak hours. However, travel delays up to 30 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Use Legacy Parkway or Frontrunner to avoid delay. FrontRunner provides all-day service with 30-min. frequency during peak hours.

Safety

Stay alert and be prepared for changing lane configurations in the project area for your safety and the safety of those working here. Please obey the posted speed and be aware for changing roadway conditions throughout the project area.
