Parolee Shot in Leg
On November 6, 2014 at approximately 6:29 p.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to the 2200 block of Park Place Court for a report of shots fired. Witnesses reported seeing several people running south from the area. One witness reported seeing a man dressed in red clothing fleeing the area with what was described as a gunshot wound to the leg.
The officers searched the area and were unable to establish exactly where the shooting occurred.
Within hours of the shooting, the Merced Police Department responded to Mercy Medical Center for the report of a victim with a gunshot wound in the emergency room. The hospital followed protocol by alerting police. Merced police officers spoke with Justin Marquez, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Merced police learned the shooting occurred in Los Banos and turned the investigation over to the Los Banos Detectives.
“We are not sure exactly what role Justin Marquez played in the shooting. What we do know is that Marquez was uncooperative with law enforcement; refusing to provide any details about the shooting.”
- Jason Hedden, Police Commander
Justin Marquez is currently on active state parole for carjacking. He was subsequently arrested for a parole violation after being released from the hospital. Marquez remains in custody at the Merced County Jail without bail.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and we are still piecing together the details.
