ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT

CRIME ALERT

Regionally, to include Anne Arundel County, we are experiencing deception style burglaries. In all of the reported incidents, the homeowner answers their door and are met by an individual who purports to be from the electric company or the water department. The homeowner is informed there is a problem in the area which requires them to enter the residence and check either electric or water functions. The homeowner is told policy dictates they accompany the worker to either the basement or outside. While being distracted an accomplice enters the home and removes valuables.

Any employee of the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company will carry proper identification, which must be presented on demand. The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works does not allow its employees to enter private residences. They will also be wearing a clearly marked shirts or jackets and operating a marked County vehicle.

DO NOT ALLOW THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR HOME.

Ask them to remain outside and immediately call 911. If possible get a description of the vehicle they are operating.
