Camillus Police Officer uses Naloxone after a man overdoses in restaurant parking lot
A Camillus Police Officer treated a man with Naloxone after he overdosed in the parking lot of Applebee’s in Camillus Commons on Friday, Nov. 14.
Camillus Police and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a person down in the parking lot of Applebee’s, located at 5241 W. Genesee St in the Town of Camillus at 11:59 p.m.
Camillus Police Officer, Michael Schreyer was the first officer to arrive and found a 21-year-old male from Syracuse, unconscious, lying in the parking lot. Within 4 minutes of being dispatched, Officer Schreyer had effectively administered a dose of Naloxone into the victim’s nostrils, causing him to regain consciousness.
The male was treated at the scene by WAVES Ambulance and transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University where he was treated for minor injuries. No drugs were recovered from the scene and no arrests were made.
The Camillus Police Department was trained in the use of Naloxone in September and kits have recently been deployed and are available to every police officer as part of Attorney General Schneiderman’s Community Overdose Prevention (COP) Program.
Naloxone is a proven life saving drug for people at risk of immediate death from an opioid overdose, including heroin and/or prescription pain pills.
