LOCATION: Derby Road ¼ mile South of Lakeside Drive

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Derby Road for a multiple car accident involving a Garbage Truck and two other vehicles that sent one person to the hospital.
The investigation determined that an Allied Waste disposal truck, operated by ROBERT MCCUNE, age 49 of Alma, was stopped in the north bound lane with his emergency flashers activated when his truck was struck from behind by a Suburban driven by JENNIFER KANGETER, age 41 of Greenville.
KANGETER stated she was also headed north on Derby Road and was unable to stop on the slushy roads and struck the rear of the garbage truck. KANGETER, who was the only occupant of her vehicle, was taken by Montcalm County Emergency Services to Sheridan Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Minutes after the above accident occurred, while emergency crews were in route to the scene of the first accident, a third vehicle, driven by JACOB WRIGHT, a 21 year old Sheridan man, struck the rear of the KANGETER vehicle with his 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. WRIGHT stated he also had difficulty stopping his car due to the slippery roadway.
Multiple airbags were deployed during the accident and seatbelts were in use. Both KANGETER and WRIGHT were issued citations for failing to stop in assured clear distance. Neither WRIGHT nor MCCUNE were injured in the crash. A second person who works for Allied Waste was outside the truck obtaining trash bins at the time of both crashes but was uninjured.
Also assisting with the incident were Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services and Rescue personnel and Stanton Fire Department.
