7th Precinct SCPD Crime Alert: Thefts from parked vehicles. See email message for crime prevention tips.
The 7th Precinct has seen a spike in the number of reports of thefts of property from parked vehicles primarily in the North Shirley area. Enhanced patrols by marked police units and plain clothes officers have been initiated in areas that have been targeted by thieves. Please consider the following crime prevention tips to protect your valuables:
At home park your car in the garage if possible or in the driveway close to your home where you can see the vehicle. Consider motion detection lighting around your property.
On roadways and in parking lots park in well lit areas close to buildings and near foot traffic.
Remove all valuables from the vehicles including cell phones, I pads, purses, wallets, back packs, briefcases, money (including loose change in the ashtray), sunglasses, sports equipment, etc..
When shopping place merchandise in your trunk. If you have at SUV or van place items out of sight and cover them with a jacket or blanket.
Lock your vehicle's glove box and set the car alarm (if equipped).
Always report suspicious activity to the Suffolk County police by calling 911 or 852-COPS.
