BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Sikeston area man and woman in custody following a narcotics investigation.
James M. Woods (59) has been charged with the Class C Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, the Class D Felony of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Alesha K. Gonzalez (33) has been charged with the Class A Misdemeanor of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the Class A Misdemeanor of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Sheriff Walter states Detective Jessica Martin recently began an investigation of drug activity at the residence, located at 84 Cypress, Sikeston. Enough information was gathered to obtain a search warrant.
On Friday, November 21, 2014, at approximately 11:54 a.m., Detective Martin, and other deputies, to include the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT), served the warrant on the residence.
Sheriff Walter states that when the search warrant was served, Woods was in the process of using methamphetamine. He attempted to dispose of the drug and a pipe, but was prevented by a deputy on the SERT. Woods was also found to be in possession of three small corner bags with a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located in plain view during the search of a bedroom. This was identified as belonging to Gonzalez. The sheriff states there were three juvenile children inside the residence at the time of the search that had access to the drugs and paraphernalia.
Sheriff Walter commends Detective Martin for her investigation and the arrests in the case. Woods remains in custody in the Scott County Jail. Bond has been set by the court at $50,000.00 cash or surety.
Gonzalez remains in custody in the Scott County Jail. Bond has been set by the court at $1,000.00 cash or surety.
