Advisory

Columbia Township Police arrest a 18 year old Lenawee County man for crimes involving a minor.

The Columbia Township Police Department recently completed an investigation involving a local 18 year-old male using the internet to attempt to arrange sex with a 14-year-old female.

A parent of the female became aware of the suspect contacting the 14 year-old through Facebook, and monitored the messages and contact from the suspect. Simultaneously, the father contacted the Columbia Township Police Department to report the crime.

Eventually, an agreed-upon time and place was established for the suspect to meet with the 14 year-old female. The suspect had kindly provided the information on what he would be driving. At approximately 12:30 A.M. on Sunday, November 23, 2014, the suspect arrived at the agreed upon location in Columbia Township, where he was met by Sgt. Niles and Officer Rodden.

He was arrested and initially transported the Columbia Township Police Department. He was then transported to and lodged at the Jackson County Jail.

On Monday, November 24, 2014, the report and warrant request was forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, and warrants were authorized and then signed charging Bradley Derek Guild (18 years, of Lenawee County) with Accosting a child for immoral purposes (four year felony), Gross indecency between male and female—committing/procuring (five year felony), and Using a computer to commit a crime (felony of four years or more but less than 10). Bradley Guild was arraigned before Judge Goostry of the 12th district court. Mr. Guild is currently being held on $100,000.00 cash or surety bond.

Guild had just recently been discharged from probation related to destroying property in the Columbia Township Park on Hyde Road that occurred in approximately October of 2013.

Proper monitoring by an astute parent prevented any harm from coming to the child, and they are to be commended for acting to assure the safety of their child.
